Maternity + Newborn Photography: Beautiful New Family

Gosh, it’s my first maternity session on the blog! it’s about time. But as beautiful as the anticipation images are, they aren’t truly complete without the big TA-DA! Baby Giana is here! So enjoy twice the goodness with this maternity+newborn duo post.

I already mentioned this in my last post, but dang! I was so, so, so excited for this baby to finally get here! All my relatives are waiting for our first nephew in April, so to have one of my best friends (also in-law family) give birth this February, well, it was incredibly awesome to be a part of. It’s the first little person that I get to enjoy and experience from the the very beginning of existence! Match that up with my kids photography craziness, and I’m afraid I wont have much space left on my computer with the amount of pictures I will be taking of little Giana from now on! They say newborn babies grow up really fast, so as much as I would like to see this baby girl grow into her own character, humor and adorableness, I don’t want to forget how tiny and precious she was at the start. I am already planning to create a big fat album book for her first birthday of all the sessions we’ll be having this year:)

Anyways, hope you enjoy all the images of this beautiful family.

Yana K - hehe well the 2nd half is the big surprise so i would hope you’d like it more:) thanks.

Julie Lange - Absolutely beautiful! Great pics Yana! Lovely baby Nancy and Sam! :)

Julia - Like the second half more. Especially the shot of the top of the head.

Nancy Dahl - Oh my…. I’m speechless. You really captured everything I could have hoped for Yana they are such beautiful pictures! You make magic, you really do:) Love you so much xoxo

Seattle Family Photography | Leah’s Family

Yes, I know. I disappeared again. Sorry about that.

2011 has just been changes and surprises for me so I decided to just go with the flow:) While I’ve been “gone,” I have been doing a little rebranding with Yana K Photography as you can see a bit with the blog design changes. How do you like it? I love the print materials even more:)Well that and finally creating and designing some office space (which I am SO stoked about!), buying the beautiful imac for a much speedier workflow (yes, that probably means more blog posts!) and finally getting an iphone! THAT should definitely keep my work life a little more organized:)By the way, I have been app crazy lately; anyone want to suggest some sweet apps I musn’t live without?

And finally, this month has been complete excitement for me because my best friend Nancy (who is also my sis-in-law’s sister) gave birth to a beautiful little girl. Family. Ah, it was the most excited I have ever been to meet a new tiny person and just gaze at her for hours. I can’t wait to share all the images I have of beautiful pregnant mama and precious baby Giana. Definitely one of the most exciting parts of the changes and surprises 2011 has been packed with.

Well aside from my “update,” I really wanted to share these images on my blog. I took these 3 days before I left to Brazil last November. Very unexpected. I was running around preparing all my documents and making store runs and packing up all my suit cases and all of a sudden I get an email from Leah. Leah has been a key role in the progress of Yana K Photography as I have received so much invaluable information not only from her awesome photographer’s blog, Go4ProPhotos, but also from my personal consultation with her the month before. Seeing her succeed with her own fairly recent photography company and the amazing Go4Pro project she has going on and a family to take care of and support; well let’s just say that’s my version of a super hero. I don’t even have a mortgage to pay or a family to support and yet so often I am so overwhelmed with everything that I have going on and all the other things that are still waiting to be accomplished. Seeing someone like Leah being able to juggle it all at once, well, that gives me a ton of hope to keep going and to pursue my dreams, because if a businesswoman-mom can do it, what’s stopping me? You can only imagine how excited I was to get that email from Leah asking me to take her pictures during Thanksgiving weekend while she was visiting Seattle. At that point, the packing and prepping could totally wait…:)The next day we got together and took all of these wonderful images. She has such a beautiful family! I thoroughly enjoyed taking all of these images, especially the silly ones:)

emik - Very nice! great job!

Kathy - Oh, how I love her family. These are such amazing shots. The one with their dog looks SO great on the big print!

Leah - Yana, they are wonderful!! The one of Taylor and Paysen makes my heart so happy!! I love them. And the one of Adi & Ella resting their heads on their arms… Melt! Thank you so so much for doing this for me so last minute especially with everything you had going on. Theses images are my treasure!! xoxoxo

Sophia - Intrigued by the little blond girls spunk, but really interested to see who this little red head is. She seems quiet. Fun family looks like.

daniel usenko - sweet photos!

yana - Oh wow, beautiful family, i love the family photo outside :)

You’ve captured some cool shots ;)

Brazilian Kiddies

I’m back! I know. Ridiculous. Haven’t posted in over a month! But hey, I have good excuses!! I’ve been busy taking pictures of Brazilian cuteness and of course celebrating the holidays with my fam:) I hope you all had a splendid Christmas and a rockin 2011 New Years!

So I was in Brazil for 3 weeks with three great friends and one of whom is my photography mentor, Daniel Usenko, so you can only imagine how many photo shoots we had and how many memory cards we went through.:)I will admit I only had about 3 days of shooting (all of which were completely unofficial) and my co-traveler ended up doing the majority of the clicking (with about 8 crazy days of official picture taking!) But you can be sure that I still got to capture my kiddies all the while enjoying the beautiful sun and the endless Brazilian adventures we found ourselves in.:)I should mention that Daniel’s pictures turned out AMAZING!!! I even helped model for some of them:) To check them out just visit his blogpost. Let me know what you think:)

The pictures are separated into 2 sections:

The 1st is Buzios, which is a beautiful fisherman tourist city where we stayed for a few days and the 2nd section includes images from the 2 Rio slums (City of God and Santa Marta) where we stayed the rest of the time. You’ll probably notice a stark contrast between the two sections. But that’s exactly what you would have noticed if you visited Rio yourself. So hopefully my pictures can tell some of Rio’s story (since it has so much to do with why I even came to Brazil the 1st time) but ultimately I just want to make sure you enjoy the adorable goodness I brought back to share with you all:)

Sidenote: boy was it difficult trying to explain to parents in Portuguese that I was a kids photographer from the U.S. wanting to take some pictures of their kids for my blog… you can just imagine the awkward moments I found myself in to get these;)

Enjoy! (and leave a comment before you go!)

BUZIOS DOWNTOWN

Is it just me or does this girl look like a little version of Jessica Alba?:)

RIO DE JANEIRO SLUMS

(these kids were SOOOOO cute! They just came outside their doorway to sit in the rain under an umbrella!)

I even got a newborn shot! One of the little kids brought me into their house and their mom showed me this precious four day old little girl!!!!

Pasha Belman Photography - Loved this blog post. Nice colors.. great photos.

Yana K - Thanks Nance:)

Yeah, they are, surprisingly. I actually remember seeing them last time I was there too (you can actually spot one of them on that group photo I put in the Twins blogpost). But yeah, surprising for sure. PS. Soon your baby girl will be all over my blog!

Nancy Dahl - Yan love the pictures, you captured the kids’ personalities and lifestyles really well! That first girl does look like Jessica Alba, lol and are those two boys at the end actually from the slum? They are a lot lighter than most of the kids I ever saw there. So proud of you honey:)

Eleanor Petry - YANA, I love the photos, I can feel like I’m in the slum and feel the warmth and atmosphere. And the kids are sooo, so cute. That girl does look like Jessica Alba. I love the B&W ones you took of her. Lovely.

co-traveler Olya - This post is so full of life and reality all the while it all looks SO GOOD! Nice joooob!!! Plus pics remind me of all the details I’ve accidentally buried in my subconscious already! I’m getting prints from you too.

Yana K - Alla – thank you:) yeah, if we had the extra time, I can only imagine the opportunities of that much color and setting variety. That’s it, next time I am taking 3 little travelers with me instead so I can do what Daniel did and actually plan the scenes and communicate with my little models:)

Orsolya - I LOVE these photos! They are all so full of energy and color! These kids are just the cutest:) Great job and what a wonderful opportunity!

co-traveller ~Alla~ - OMG Yana! These photos are beautiful! I can only imagine what you’d do with your genius eye if you had all the time in the world to take photos of kids in Brazil!

Gina - wow!!!. amazing, i’m sooo jealous you got to go to Brazil!!!
the photos are amazing!! the girls are beautiful!!!..
awesome job :)
keep it up!
